Jijona (alternative spelling Xixona) is a small town in the mountains a short distance outside Alicante. Jijona is a typical Spanish small town and it is known for the production of Turrón (Spanish nougat) taking place here. Turrón has been produced in Jijona at least since the Middle Ages and Jijona is considered its birthplace.

On a hilltop overlooking the city rests the ruins of a medieval castle and around it grows the almond which is the most important ingredient in Turrón. The nature around the city consists of both green valleys and impressive mountain ranges that reach over 1000 meters above sea level. The area is perfect for outdoor activities and is popular for cycling (both road cycling and mountain biking). Road cyclists challenge themselves on the famous climb to La Carrasqueta (1020 meters above sea level) which has been part of La Vuelta de España several times.
